What We Feel
You reassured me so sweetly of your love
For I was in fear that it was permanently lost
Oh, can we be alone and to its rhythm move?
If convention objects, I will bear the cost.
But, for so long my affection you have known
Yet, social norms have too often gotten in the way
Ignoring when the seeds of love are sown
We should let them grow and let nothing sway.
So, we are only delaying our eventuality
Freed from society's rules to, finally, be alone
And then only our naked love we longingly see
Watching convention fade before our love’s groan.
For that has been always what has been in store
Who we belong to claimed by what we most treasure
And should in our passion need nothing more
Propriety only follows our sensual pleasure.
