For What May I Yearn?

I have known life’s brief lease
Delivered from darkness and to it return
Here, I could gauge my peace
But around its borders for what may I yearn?

Yet, I will soon know what darkness keep
Where my longest period be a mystery
So, in this life what a loss was sleep?
Except in those dreams you were brought to me.

And from them awaken though you not appear
While in that final night your image may not know
But, as long as I live I may find you here
Instead of hoping your love to my void will go.

How sad that from this course I have no say
That over the mystery surrounding me have no control
For how much happier if in every realm you stay
Then it wouldn’t matter if from this day to darkness go.
