Silence

Hear that silence that hides behind dead sounds
Like the Robin whose song now melancholy
Like the crash of the waves to the bank surrounds
I can but only hear your breath when next to me.

And sounds of life that nothing living in me stir
The laughter and cries that the heart will move
To me but dulled by the sadness to mine defer
And not joy or sympathy but my plight prove.

And what is silent I most clearly around me hear
The morning sun awakening the virgin day
But its light only highlights the one not near
The moon quietly shines while you loudly don’t stay.

And the sounds I hear but deadened by my plight
How I long for the wind's breeze to rustle in my heart
And the Robin’s chords to, once again, take me in flight
And to life’s ebbs and flows, let our love play its part.
