I Do Not Want to Sleep

I don’t want to sleep, to close my eyes
There is something this day has not fulfilled
To sleep I will lose this day what most prize
Even if in dreams your image is filled.

I will try to stay awake as long as I can
No matter how much the night beckons me
The hours may go by but make my stand
I will stay in the place you are closest to me.

Yet, the night's call to me is relentless
I don’t know how much longer I can stay awake
But, surrendering will leave me only helpless
So, my resolve is stronger for here your love can take.

I will fight against what is only a numbing sleep
Even if you are not here I can still wish for you
In my dreams only your illusion will keep
Here, my dreams have the best chance of coming true.
